ABOUT

Photo: Cam Archer, 2016.
Kristal is an independent filmmaker, writer, and activist living in San Francisco by way of Singapore -> Los Angeles -> Santa Cruz. Her work deals both explicitly and implicitly with issues found in a society in transition from a predominantly white heterosexual culture to one whose growing QPOC population affects and deconstructs the conventions of mainstream media and the greater Hollywood machine.
Her creative practice re-frames these unique experiences and perspectives through an intersectional lens. As a woman existing on the border of multiple intersectionalities, her films embrace the complexities of girlhood while questioning how feminist filmmaking can be radicalized through genre hybridity.
Kristal also works as a freelance video editor and writer for popular Bay Area-based Apple blog, Cult of Mac.
